I have always been fascinated by robots.
B.E.A.M. robotics is a combination of multiple aspects of my past and present interests.

BEAM stands for Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics and Mechanics.

Biology: Amongst my various interests in the past and present I have been an amateur Entomologist, with a deep fascination with Arthropods.

Electronics: This is an area that I know very little about, beyond high school electronics. Being a software man, the analog hardware of BEAM, is a fresh and very different world than the high-level (logical) world of software.

Aesthetics: As a kite designer I had been making art in many forms since I was a boy.

Mechanics: Being a kite designer, this aspect of BEAM and robotics always surprises and inspires me.
